> What is the Polar Hero Race ?

POLAR HERO is a 5+km foot race, including 22 obstacles to overcome in midwinter. Whether facing this challenge alone or with a team, this challenging race course is committed to test the strength, endurance and resilience of each participant. Nature will handle the rest!
Whether you are at the beginner or expert level, just come and break the ice during this very festive and unique event in Canada.

 

> When and Where the Polar Hero races taking place?

Montréal: February 24th, 2018 - Parc Angrignon

Québec: March 24th, 2018 - Base de Plein Air de Sainte-Foy

> Is Polar Hero open to everyone?

Yes, everyone is welcome to participate to the Polar Hero race. The 5 km distance makes the race accessible to any and all levels of runners.

 

> What are the possible risks of doing this race?

Virtually none. Instead, it will only improve your current fitness level.
Regarding your safety, Polar Hero has a natural advantage with the snow that can cushion in case of a fall.
So you are not risking anything, don’t worry!
Nevertheless, it is essential to be well equipped in order to avoid the risk of frostbite

 

> Who participates in this kind of race?

Anyone wishing to excel while having fun.
Whether you're a competitive runner or someone looking for a new challenge alone or with friends, 
the Polar Hero race is for you!

> I've never run before, can I still participate?

There is no accomplishment that doesn’t begin by first making a decision.
If you have decided to do this race, then sign up and join us.
Of course the journey will be difficult, but the victory will be all the more beautiful and well deserved.

> What is the ELITE 10.50?

100 participants will have the chance to open the Polar Hero race in the powder snow. (We do not pack down the snow!)
We operate on a first come, first serve basis. It will be a 10km course with 45 obstacles  (Double lap)
However, do not underestimate your fitness level before testing yourself on this extreme route.
You have been warned!

 

> What are the obstacles of the race?

The Polar Hero route is unique at every event.
The variation in altitude makes the race attractive and unpredictable.

Obstacles are chosen depending on the terrain.
One thing is sure: you'll have to climb, jump, crawl, carry, and run...in the snow!
In addition, the weather can increase the difficulty of the route and decrease your ability to finish the race.

 

 

> Can I participate as a volunteer

Yes, we are always looking for resourceful, sympathetic and dynamic people to enable the success of this unique race.
Each volunteer will receive a volunteer neck warmer, a discount on a future race, a hot meal and a drink.

REGISTRATION

> What is the minimum age to participate?

The minimum age is 13 years old for general registration and 7 years old for the family wave.

 

> Will there be on-site registration in the morning?

Yes, you can!

> Can I change my wave departure?

Yes, it is always possible to change your wave departure, but only two weeks before the date of your event. There will not be any changes on the day of the event.

> I registered but I can't make the race anymore, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, no refunds are possible. Nevertheless, we understand that you cannot participate. Consequently, we leave you the option to transfer your registration to a person of your choice for only 10$. Thank you for sending us the information at info@sport-era.com as quickly as possible.
Transfers will be possible on-site for 15$.

EVENT DAY

> What are the steps to take before departure?

We recommend that you arrive at least one hour before the departure of your wave.

Here are the steps to follow :

> Find a parking spot
> Go to the registration area to confirm your registration
> Confirm your registration (with an ID)
> Dress warmly
> Drop your bags: a locker room will be provided for this purpose
> Take a walk in the polar town to warm up
> Prepare your warm-up

Each participant much pass through these registrations steps  (even if you already have your ticket).

 

> How should I dress to participate to Polar Hero?

Remember that there is no bad weather; there are just badly dressed people !
What to bring :
> A pair of winter boots with wool socks
> A pair of waterproof gloves
> A hat and a neck warmer
> Outdoor activity or ski wear. Avoid cotton clothing!
> Instead, choose breathable clothes
> Ski Goggles for the perfect look

You will be able to remove layers of clothing during the race if you want.

 

> Is the parking free?

Parking price depends on the location of the race.

 

> What do I earn by finishing the race?

Each participant will receive a Polar Hero medal!

 

> Should I bring cash?

Yes because we have a nice shop

There will be no ATM on site. Cash only.

 

> Will there be a medical team on site?

A medical team will be present on site.
In case of minor injuries, our medical team will provide care on site.
In the case of a severe injury, we will call for an ambulance.

 

> What happens if there is a snow storm?

We reserve the right to cancel the race only in the case where its access would be compromised by a capricious weather. However, if the traffic is not disrupted, the event will take place even during a storm !
It will be epic and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

 

> Is the race timed?

Yes, the race is timed for the Elite 10.50 only
 

> If I cannot cross an obstacle or if I'm affraid, can I still participate?

Obstacles are mandatory for the ELITE + 10.50 
For the other waves, you have 3 chances to complete an obstacle.

If an obstacle does not suit you then you can skip it.
 

> How long will it take me to do the course?

It is estimated that the course can be completed anywhere between 40 minutes and 2 hours depending on the amount of snow, the variation in altitude of every race and, of course, your fitness level.
